I have to say that Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is one of the better platformers released in the last decade. This is a game that started out back in the 80s as a Mario rip-off but eventually would go on to find its own identity.

It was fantastic when it was first released, and the Director's Cut, the addition of multiplayer and even the latest version for the Nintendo Switch all add up to make this one of the best 2D platformers of this and the last generation!

The plot of the game is not exactly deep, but it works and gives Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams its own identity. Giana is a pretty cool teenager and one day her sister, Maria is kidnapped by an evil dragon and he takes her to the dream world.

Giana is having none of this and goes on a quest to save her, little did this dragon know that Giana can actually control her dreams! When Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams was first released back in , it was already a great looking game, but the most recent release on STEAM has tidied things up I think and overall, the game looks sharper, clearer, and runs better. It is like you are playing through an animated movie, I usually use Pixar or DreamWorks as an example, but this feels more like something Don Bluth would have done back in the day.

It truly is a gorgeous-looking game and thanks to the main gameplay gimmick, it is a game that is very varied in the way that it looks as well. Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is a 2D platformer where you run around, jump on enemies, and collect items as you race to the end of each level.

The thing is, the whole dream world setting of the game is a huge factor in the actual gameplay. Giana has the ability to change from cute Giana that has nice dreams to badass Giana that has nightmares. You can change on the fly and when you do the whole world changes!

The music changes, the enemies, things that were once impossible to pass may now be passable, and more! It is a very clever gimmick and sometimes a level will have you changing back and forth constantly.

I think that the most recent Crash Bandicoot had a similar thing going with the masks. With different accessibility options, multiplayer modes added and a fantastic adventure to play through, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is one of my favorite modern 2D platformers for a very good reason. This game is very, very well made and it is a game that I have played through multiple times, I played this on back in the day, PC and I now have the Switch version too!
